I just looked up and found that a guy named Michael Nicolosi will be composing the score with Nick Keeling. Who is Nicolosi, and how (I should also ask why) did you get him?

We hired Michael because the movie is going to be two hours long and having just one composer write that much music for a film is a lot of hard work. You can’t necessarily expect one composer to do all the work unless they’re getting professionally paid to do it.

So we got two composers so we could even out the score.

Introducing: Forest Rain

We’ve got another big announcement everypony! We’ve finally acquired a songwriter to help bring the musical aspect of Journey of the Spark to life. So please say hello to Brony musician Forest Rain!

Forest has been seen in the community making covers as well as producing his own original songs including the hit single “Hay Ms. Derpy” and was one of the main contributors to The Massive Smile Project in which he produced and created. In Journey of the Spark, Forest will be using his talents to write the original songs found within the film’s soundtrack.

We’re incredibly ecstatic to have him on board for the project and he is too! Look forward to the many amazing songs we’re collaborating on and look forward to a possible demo release!

Here's a question, how big of a role is Princess Luna going to get?

Luna plays an incredibly vital role in the film. After all, she’s one of the major characters that goes along the journey with the rest of the Mane 6 and Spike.

I can’t reveal a whole about what she’ll do in the film. But Luna’s involvement in the story leads to a lot of the film’s drama and heart.

The Importance of Aiming For A General Audience

One of the most notable things that I’m trying to accomplish with Journey of the Spark is that I’m attempting to aim for an audience that doesn’t necessarily involve the Bronies: a general audience.

Now I know what a majority of you are thinking: Why bother making a two hour animated film based on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic if you’re not going to target the show’s widest audience? The answer to that question is not as simple as I would like it to be.

What art style are you planning to use? Will it be more like the official show or more simplistic like Rainbow Dash Presents? Also, If you could, to what movie would you compare Journey of the Spark?

We’re aiming to make the film as show accurate as possible. However, we’re also trying to improve the cinematography to match cinematic standards adding more types of details to the animation such as shading, shadows, lighting, etc.

In terms of what movie I would compare Journey of the Spark to, I can’t really say for sure but I can say what films inspired it. The story is very much inspired by many classic 80’s fantasy films like The Dark Crystal, Willow, and Return to Oz. But the film was also inspired by many classic-era Disney films of both the 30’s-40’s and the 90’s.

Aug 12, 20121 note
How long do you plan on making this movie? Will it be the length of an FiM episode, or will it actually be a movie?

It will be the actual length of a movie. And believe it or not, it could very well run at about 2 hours in length.

Just for curiosity's sake...what do you guys think is the best optimistic estimate should you somehow end up with the right support, to get this done? I'm not thinking sometime this year, but it'd be nice to know if the optimistic estimate put it sometime in 2013.

If we manage to get the team big enough to complete this project, audiences could very well expect to see “Journey of the Spark” done at least by Holiday 2013 or Spring 2014. I’d say around that estimate because again I care about the quality of the film, so that’s why I’m guessing around those areas.

Aug 11, 20122 notes
Is the story going to be darker than the show, or will it be along the same lines?

In terms of the tone we wanna take with “Journey of the Spark”, we’re aiming to tell a story that is much darker than “Return of Harmony (Part 1)”. So yes, MUCH darker.

Aug 10, 20121 note
It is fairly obvious that the plot will revolve around the Mane 6, but you also mention Celestia and Spike as characters. Do they play a large role too? Or are they more to the side of comic relief and minor appearances?

There’s quite a few characters that actually play a large role in the film. However, I can’t say how though. The Mane 6 are ultimately the big focus of the film though since the story does revolve around them trying to find Twilight.

Big news everyone. It was just confirmed last night that I will be appearing on “Stay Brony, My Friends” with DustyKat on Everfree Radio on Monday, August 20th at 5PM PDT. I’m going to be interviewed and “Journey of the Spark” is at full center. I cannot tell you guys how ecstatic I am to appearing on the show. I hope for any newcomers to the film I’ll be able to answer any and all questions you have concerning the production.

Also, I’m going to be hosting an interview livestream very soon with the voice actress for Princess Celestia, Jen McGregor! So if you guys wanna ask any questions about her role in film, stay tuned and I’ll post a concrete date of when we’ll be doing the interview!

Speaking of which, I’m briefly re-opening the Question Box for all you eager fans wanting to find out some interesting tidbits about the movie. So ask away! The question box is only for a short time before I close it again!

Will Gummy make an appearance in the film?

At this point, we don’t know ourselves.

What inspired the name of the movie, Journey of the Spark?

The name of the film refers to multiple different things in the film. The spark refers to the immortal connection founded by Twilight’s friendship with the girls and is even a callback to “Friendship is Magic (Part 2)”

The journey aspect of the title represents the main idea behind the story. The whole point of the film is that each of the characters are trying to find their way in life through the journey, both metaphorically and physically. Its a way for the characters to learn to face their inner demons and learn more about themselves than they even knew.

The whole message behind the film is that life in itself is one whole journey. That you’ll always lose yourself along the way. But just because one adventure has ended, doesn’t mean another one can’t begin.

So i was just wondering whats going on whit the animation? Did you start animating the film or somting.

The animation process has not started yet. We’re still working on the script. Once’s that’s done we can take that over to recording with the actors and then it’ll go to animatics and finally it’ll go over to the animation department.
